Pasha’s MV Jean Anne to Call Port of San Diego Home

Tuesday, December 14, 2004

[Corte Madera, CA] -- Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines today announced it has selected the Port of San Diego as the home port for the MV Jean Anne, a 579-foot roll on/roll off (Ro/Ro) Pure Car Truck Carrier vessel. Designed and built to transport more than 3,000 American-sized vehicles and other rolling stock from the West Coast to the Hawaiian Islands, the Jean Anne is owned and operated by Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, a joint venture between The Pasha Group, a Corte Madera, CA-based company, and Strong Vessel Operators LLC, a Stamford, CT-based ship owner and operator.

Under final construction in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the Jean Anne is expected to arrive at Pasha's state-of-the-art automotive processing facility in San Diego in March 2005 to begin fortnightly service to the Hawaiian ports of Honolulu, Hilo, Kahului and Nawiliwili. Pasha's San Diego facility is a gateway for manufacturers to bring vehicles to the U.S and then distribute to dealers throughout the western states. Pasha has been processing vehicles at its Port of San Diego facility since 1990. The company recently signed a multi-year contract with the Chrysler Group for the Jean Anne to transport its new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge brand vehicles to Hawaii.

"The Jean Anne will be the first Pure Car and Truck Carrier to serve the Hawaii market. In combination with our San Diego operation, Pasha will offer a complete solution specifically tailored to the Automotive Industry's requirements," said George Pasha, IV, president and COO of The Pasha Group.

Pasha began its San Diego-based automotive terminal operations in 1990, and today the facility encompasses 135 acres and more than 350,000 square feet of post-production facilities where automobiles are made dealer-ready.

The facility is served by BNSF railway with 120 rail car positions for ease of distribution. Pasha's facility processes more than 300,000 vehicles annually and recently surpassed the two million vehicles processed mark.

Pasha's facility has 4,300 linear feet of berthing, which allows for simultaneous discharge of up to five vessels. The facility currently provides berthing for about 175 vessel calls per year. The Jean Anne will add 26 incremental calls for the Pasha San Diego team to manage.

"The mature operations at the Port also offer the Jean Anne a proven team of professionals to support the ship's fortnightly schedule with reliability and quality service," said Stan Gabara, executive vice president of automotive services at Pasha's San Diego facility.
